The Halland Forge Hotel has hosted a celebratory dinner to mark a 94 year old's 60th anniversary as a Heathfield and Waldron Rotarian. Around 80 people gathered to join Peter Goodwin in his celebration and a surprise This is Your Life was read out and later presented to him.
Mr Goodwin also received congratulatory letters from Rotary's World President, John Kerry of Rotary International and from National President David Fowler.
Mr Goodwin was showered with praise by his family and friends throughout the night. He told the Courier "The great thing that Rotary has done for me is to introduce me to people who have been great friends for many, many years, both in this locality and other clubs, such as our contact clubs in France".

Last weekend was Demelza House Childrens Hospice 10th Birthday. Pictured: Immediate Past President Graeme Hird of Heathfield & Waldron Rotary Club presenting a cheque for £800 at Demelzas' Hospice near Sittingbourne.
The proceeds from the Heathfield Carnival held earlier this year on 28th June was the result of a combined effort between Demelza House local office in Magham Down and Heathfield & Waldron Rotary Club. We asked for their help with the Carnival which raised £1600. The donation represents half of the money raised and the other half has been used by Rotary for Charitable causes.
Demelza House is based just outside Sittingbourne and on the eve of the 10th anniversary local and supporting Rotary Clubs were invited to come and see their hospice care support unit.

Heathfield & Waldron Rotary Club presented a donated Mobility Scooter to Mr John Fuller, for his use as long as he needs it. John has suffered with a spine problem which resulted in an inability to use his legs but is coping very well with his disability. John is a very cheerful and spent a while in Stoke Mandervill, which he found very helpful after an operation to his spine was not 100% successful.

Heathfield and Waldron Rotary Club have presented a Rotary Community Service Award to Audrey Milton. Audrey works tirelessly for the Guiding movement and is the present Chairman of the Management & Fund Raising Committee. Since she moved to this area some 40 years ago Audrey has been one of the main stalwarts in Heathfield Guides. Mrs Milton is presently strongly involved in trying to fund a replacement Guide Hut for their Bull River Site.
This Weald Division of Girl Guiding has use of this really special campsite, situated in lovely Countryside known locally as "Bull River" where all sections of the Guide and Scout Movement can enjoy the great outdoors with camping and learning new skills in perfect safety. However the large building which has served them so well since 1921 was surveyed last year and they were told that the building must be replaced as soon as possible. This news triggered a terrific amount of fund raising with various events and much rattling of their begging bowl! So far they have raised £20,000 but they need a further £15,000 to complete their dream of having a new building by 2010 which is their Centenary Year. This new building will provide today’s youngsters and future generations with a very special place to practice Guiding & Scouting. This project is very dear to Audrey's heart as it was for her late husband Frank (who passed away earlier this year).
If you can help to achieve Audrey’s dream in any way to raise money’ please contact Audrey on 01435 830504 or the Guide Division Commissioner on 01323 832937.
The Heathfield and Waldron Rotary Club arranged the New Heathfield Carnival on 28th June 2008 and one of the outlets for the sale of programs was the Guides & Brownies.

Heathfield & Waldron Rotary Club held a Charity film night recently at the Hailsham Pavilion, showing the remake of the “Sleuth” starring Michael Caine and Jude Law. The Rotary Club evening was sponsored by local Business Stevens & Carter, Goldsmith & Allcorn, Sarah Tate and The Pet Food Shop. The evening raised £1,700 for good causes.
The Rotary Club also presented a cheque for £150 to Churches Together for their Street Pastor's Initiative. Churches Together are joining this new scheme and are training the first group of street Pastors at present. When trained the Pastors will patrol Heathfield to join in conversation with people they meet in the evening and endeavour to show, through reasoned conversation, that there are more worthwhile things to do than cause trouble and damage to the fabric of the Town.
Picture shows Revd. Michael Creech of St. Catherine's Church receiving the cheque from Graeme Hird, them Rotary President.
